Dr Andreas Raffel announced as the New Chair of the Board and Pro Chancellor of London South Bank University
Dr Andreas Raffel has been appointed as the Chair of the Board and Pro Chancellor of London South Bank University (LSBU) for four years. Dr Andreas Raffel has extensive governance experience across the public, voluntary and private sectors:
- After Andreas gained a Masters and PhD in Business from Augsburg University in Germany he spent 30+ years working in senior roles in London, Frankfurt and Dubai at Morgan Stanley and Rothschild & Co.
- Since 2009, Andreas has been active in higher education governance as Deputy Chair of Council for Cranfield University and Chair of the Finance and Infrastructure Committee at University of Bristol.
- Andreas also served for 10 years on the Imperial College NHS Trust Board and was until December 2021 Deputy Chair of the largest substance abuse charity in the UK, Change Grow Live.
- Andreas serves on the Advisory Boards of three early stage companies in London and Berlin.
Dr Andreas Raffel replaces Jerry Cope as Chair of the Board and Pro Chancellor of LSBU who served in that role for eight years since August 2015. Jerry Cope worked as Managing Director of Royal Mail followed by a varied career in the higher education sector, NHS, Prison Service, pensions industry, sport and leadership roles in the public and private sectors. Jerry is a fanatical supporter of Fulham FC for 60 years, and loves watching live sport, particularly Cricket and Rugby League.
Dr Andreas Raffel said, “I am honoured to have been appointed as the new Chair of the Board and Pro Chancellor of LSBU. Higher education is facing challenging times, however, LSBU has a unique set of attributes that position it very well to be successful, in the current environment. LSBU has a strong social mission, excellent connectivity with business and our unique LSBU Group partnership of secondary, further and higher education providers offer students a wide range of pathways to learn the skills they need to build successful careers.”
Jerry Cope, the outgoing Chair of the Board and Pro Chancellor of LSBU said, “It has been a huge pleasure that Andreas Raffel has agreed to become the new Chair of the Board and Pro Chancellor of LSBU. LSBU’s core value of seeking to maximise the potential of its diverse and talented students has not only shone through while I have served on the governing Board, but has gained in reputation and recognition across the UK. In recent years we have seen the addition of Lambeth College and two secondary schools to join LSBU Group and our new LSBU university campus in Croydon.”
