We are pleased to announce that Dr. Angela Ridley has been appointed as the Head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery at London South Bank University (LSBU).
Dr. Ridley will join LSBU from Northumbria University, where she has worked for the past 17 years, bringing extensive experience in nursing education, research, and leadership. Having been a nurse specialising in learning disabilities for over 30 years, she holds an MSc in Academic and Professional Practice, is a Registered Nurse Teacher with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), and has completed a doctoral thesis titled A social constructivist narrative exploration of women with intellectual disability and nurses in English secure services.
Dr. Ridley’s research interests span multiple fields of nursing and midwifery, demonstrating her interdisciplinary approach to healthcare education. Her recent work includes exploring the experiences of informal caregivers supporting individuals with learning disabilities in accessing sexual health services, improving interprofessional collaboration in maternity services for mothers with intellectual disabilities, and investigating the role of simulation in addressing unconscious bias in healthcare education.
In her new role, Dr. Ridley will provide strategic leadership to the School of Nursing and Midwifery, which is part of LSBU’s new College of Health and Life Sciences. She will focus on fostering an inclusive and innovative learning environment, enhancing student experience, and strengthening LSBU’s reputation as a leader in healthcare education.
Professor Brian Boag, Executive Dean of the College of Health and Life Sciences, welcomes Dr. Ridley’s appointment, saying: "We are thrilled to have Dr. Angela Ridley join LSBU as Head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery. Dr. Ridley adds: "Joining LSBU as Head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery is an incredible opportunity, and I am eager to get started. I look forward to working with colleagues and students to build on the School’s strong foundations, ensuring we continue to deliver high-quality education that prepares future nurses and midwives to excel in their professions and drive positive change in healthcare."
This appointment is part of LSBU’s commitment to attracting top talent and strengthening our leadership in health education. We look forward to welcoming Dr. Ridley to LSBU in May.
