LSBU launches ‘Love to Learn, Learn to Love’ campaign as Pride Festival begins

LSBU has continued its support of the LGBT+ community, launching the 'Love to Learn, Learn to Love' campaign as the Pride London 2017 Festival begins

Coinciding with the beginning of Pride in London’s 2017 Festival, London South Bank University (LSBU) has launched its own campaign to champion the rights of the LGBT+ community within the University and the wider community.

The University has supported the LGBT+ community in a number of ways, including taking part in the Pride parade for five years, being recognised as a Stonewall Top 100 employer, and having an active sexual orientation and gender identity staff network, SONET, which is also a member of the wider Southwark LGBT Network.

This commitment has gone one step further with the launch of a dedicated campaign called ‘Love to Learn, Learn to Love’, which recognises the important role of universities in being at the forefront of the wider effort to embrace equality and diversity.

LSBU Chief Operation Officer Ian Mehrtens said the campaign built on the Pride 2017 theme of ‘Love happens here’ and brought together two key focus areas of LSBU.

“At LSBU, of course we have a commitment to learning, but we pride ourselves on our excellence in teaching and fostering an engaging and exciting learning environment for our students,” Mr Mehrtens said.

“However, this is only part of university life and we want to educate our students – who come from a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds – on key issues in today’s society, and ensure our engaging and exciting learning environment is accessible and supportive to all, and in this case particularly for the LGBT+ community.

“This is why the ‘Love to Learn, Learn to Love’ campaign has come about and we hope that when people think of LSBU, they think of a university committed to celebrating equality and diversity.”

The campaign will include bus side banners and dedicated Snapchat filters during the Pride festival among other events online and on campus.
