Professor Finola Farrant has been appointed the Head of the School of Law and Education and has joined London South Bank University (LSBU) in February 2025.

Professor Farrant joins LSBU from Arden University where she was a Founding Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences at Arden University and responsible for five academic Schools including Criminology, Digital Education, Law, Psychology, Investigation and Security and Defence.

After an early career as a social care practitioner, Professor Farrant moved into the higher education sector where she was appointed Senior Lecturer at the University of the West of England. She then spent 13 years at the University of Roehampton, serving in various roles, including Deputy Head of Social Sciences and Programme Convenor Criminology and Law and Criminology.

The School of Law and Education is one of three Schools within the College of Society and Professions. As Head, Professor Farrant will provide strategic leadership across teaching, research and curriculum innovation. She will be looking at improving the quality of the student experience and outcomes and research and innovation activities within the School by strengthening relationships with professional bodies, industry partners, and the wider community to ensure that the School remains responsive to the evolving needs of students.

Professor Finola Farrant said: “I’m most looking forward to working with colleagues and students to create a new, vibrant School of Law and Education. A place where students will have the opportunity to challenge and stretch themselves - and graduate prepared to pursue their chosen careers; and colleagues feel valued and see the positive impact that their work has. The new School of Law and Education will be an academic environment where everyone can achieve their potential.”

Professor Alex Kendall, Executive Dean for the College of Society and Professions, said: “I am delighted Professor Farrant has joined us to lead our School of Law and Education. Fiona has an excellent track record of bringing positive institutional change for students including leading improvements in student continuation, graduate outcomes, student satisfaction and increasing student numbers.”

We are delighted that Finola Farrant has joined LSBU. This is the latest in our series of new talent recruitment as part of our new Schools / College structure which involves combining ten schools of study into three Colleges, each with three or four Schools within them. This will facilitate enhanced strategic leadership across related subject areas, promote collaboration between teaching and research, invest in the student experience and grow employer partnerships.
