University of the year for social inclusion
London South Bank University (LSBU) is the best university in the UK for helping to reduce educational inequalities according to the rankings produced by the Daily Mail published today (Thursday 5 September).
LSBU is the Daily Mail University of the Year for Social Inclusion 2025 "for its stellar record in breaking down the barriers to higher education".
This follows the news in June 2024 by the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings who named LSBU as top three in the world for reducing inequality.
Professor David Phoenix, LSBU’s Vice-Chancellor, said: “We are delighted to again be recognised for our commitment to making university accessible to all while ensuring our students achieve outstanding graduate outcomes. Our approach focuses on support centred around our students’ personal needs and we continue to strengthen our links with business to grow graduate outcomes. To top this ranking is further endorsement of the outstanding work of our staff, students and graduates and I'm very proud of what has been achieved.”
Alastair McCall, editor of the Daily Mail University Guide, said: “Social inclusion runs through London South Bank University like a stick of rock. It is one of the leading institutions in the UK for making higher education a viable prospect for students who might not get the chance elsewhere.
“The work of the wider London South Bank Group provides clear pathways from partner schools and further education institutions into the university to make the transition an attainable prospect. The result is one of the most diverse student populations anywhere in the UK.
“Recognised this year as one of the leading universities in the world for tackling inequalities, London South Bank sits among the top 10 modern universities in the Daily Mail’s new ranking with a graduate employment record that puts some Russell Group universities in the shade. This is not just a university of opportunity but one that delivers an outstanding end product.
“London South Bank believes in providing higher education to all who have the potential to benefit from it. It then makes sure that its students go on to achieve well both while they are at London South Bank and then in their careers beyond.”
LSBU has also received four nominations in the Times Higher Education Awards 2024 shortlist out today for Outstanding Entrepreneurial University of the Year, Outstanding Support to Local Community, Outstanding Contribution to Environmental Leadership and Outstanding Support for Students.
