Prevent

What is Prevent

  • Its one element of the Governments wider counter terrorism strategy.  Education establishments have a duty to comply with Prevent;
  • Prevent is to help stop people becoming radicalised or being drawn into terrorism;
  • It covers all forms of radicalisation;
  • Prevent is part of Safeguarding and welfare and is outside of the criminal justice system.

Why is Prevent important and how can I help

Prevent is part of wellbeing and safeguarding each other.

  • It offers support and help to try to stop people taking the wrong path in life;
  • Everyone has a role to play. You don’t need to be an expert, only know how to flag a concern.

Behaviour

No single unique symptom to spot– therefore based on the individual, context and impact and not a single definitive checklist.

How to raise a concern

  • Talk to a Lecturer or your Manager if you are worried about a friend, another student or colleague;
  • Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.
