Sustainability Policy for LSBU Group

In the LSBU Group Sustainability Policy (Sustainability Policy (PDF File 147 KB), approved in November 2023, the Group declares that it will take a strategic approach to reducing its carbon emissions and attaining its set targets. It will educate and develop the personal attributes of its learners to equip them to play their part in addressing the challenges of resource depletion, pollution, climate change, and inequality in society. It will also support colleagues to respond to these global challenges. The policy gives effect to part of the LSBU Group Corporate Strategy 2020-26 which aims to transform lives, communities, businesses and society through applied education and insight. The policy replaces the Environmental and Ethical Policy for LSBU, published in 2016, which was the first statement on the LSBU's commitment to environmental management, and its approach to undertaking it.

Carbon Reduction Statement

The LSBU Group is committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and it has adopted carbon reduction targets calculated using its current data collection practices. The Group is on a journey of data gathering and reporting maturation regarding Scope 3 data collection, but it has a high degree of confidence and a mature approach to the collection of Scope 1 and 2 data.  The LSBU Group has chosen the 2019-20 academic year (1st August 2019 to 31st July 2020) as the baseline year; this is the last “reflective” reporting year prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Carbon Reduction Plan of the LSBU Group which outlines its path towards its target of attaining net zero in 2050, was published in 2023. It can be found at the link below.
