- Is well-lit.
- The space around you is uncluttered.
- Has clear audio with no background noise.

- Short presentation about the course
- Question and answer session.
Audition Monologue Brief (for all options)
Your monologue must be between 1min 30 secs and 2 minutes and can be from any published dramatic material - a play, or TV/Film of your choice. We encourage you to choose material that gives you an opportunity to foreground your own artistic interpretation rather than impersonating another actor’s performance. We want to see the best of you. During both online (live) and in-person (on campus) auditions, you will be asked about your character and your understanding of the scene or material from which the monologue is taken. Please make sure that you have read the play/screen play where possible as you may be asked about your understanding of the character and material as part of the audition.
If you are having difficulty choosing or sourcing a monologue you might find these online resources below helpful.

How can I prepare for my audition?
- Read the whole play/script beforehand where possible. If this is not possible, you should have created a clear and credible context and backstory in your imagination and be able to speak about this.
- Get on your feet and rehearse your monologue several times (maybe in different ways), out loud and in a space, before your audition. Don’t try and do it all in your head.
- Know what has happened to the character, where they are, their situation and who they are speaking to.
- Think about why you want to study Acting. What excites you about performing and what will training give you?
- Be honest in your UCAS statement and write in your own voice.
- If you are unsure about any aspect of the audition, please reach out to us before. We are here to help you be your best self in the audition and aim to provide a relaxed, enjoyable time with us.

It is important to remember that the audition is also your chance to find out all you can about LSBU. To make sure that we can help you make an informed choice, we will offer all online auditionees the opportunity to attend an open day where you can get a feel for the course, the campus, and meet members of the acting teaching team and current acting students. We also suggest you take a good look at the course page on our website and explore the course social media accounts to get a fuller picture of the course. lsbu.ac.uk | Twitter | Facebook | Instagram
What are we looking for in a successful applicant?
We're looking for someone who is passionate about Acting in live performance as well as on screen. Someone who has the energy, commitment and hunger to undertake a rigorous and distinctive actor training.
Acting on your own can be a bit lonely so sharing and collaboration is at the heart of all we do at LSBU. Therefore, the ability and desire to communicate and collaborate with others in a group environment is essential. Independence, active learning, enthusiasm, positivity, drive, and a sense of humour are really welcomed too. Play is a big part of what we do. We love people who are not afraid to make mistakes in order to improve - people who can laugh at themselves. Your mistakes may be the best part of you!
In your audition we are also interested in:
- Your ability to be flexible and your willingness to try new things.
- Your openness to working and playing with others.
- An appreciation of the work and commitment needed to train and grow as an actor and a willingness to be brave and move outside your comfort zone to see what you’re capable of.
- Curiosity about art, life and the wider world.
At LSBU we are committed to ensuring every student and every identity is seen, respected and valued. We want to encourage applicants from all regions and groups within society as the courses continues to embrace and celebrate difference. There is no mould to fit in to and we are by your side throughout your training, working with you to get the most out of your learning and help you reveal your very best self.
