Occupational Health (OH)
Ensuring you’re fit for the workplaceImportant statement for new and continuing students studying Health and Social Care courses
An exciting part of many of our Health and Social Care courses is the opportunity to learn off-campus and work with patients, clients and/or service users. Before you start, we need to make sure that you have the correct levels of immunisations.
If you are unable, or unwilling, to be vaccinated, we will not be able to provide you with the practice placements necessary to complete your health care degree. If this is the case, you may wish to look at an alternative career.
Occupational Health
Through your placements (and later in your careers) you’ll work in all sorts of healthcare environments. It’s our job to make sure you’re ready for the real world and have the skills, ability, confidence to handle anything thrown your way!
Our students love going on placements. Nothing beats that experience of working in a real healthcare setting with patients. However, before you start we need to make sure that you have the correct levels of immunisations. This is to protect you and those around you.
There are three parts to your occupational health check:
1. Questionnaire
Start by completing the online questionnaire from our occupational health provider. Please note this health questionnaire is now live and is for all our new applicants due to study with us in September 2023. Please complete the process now so that our occupational health advisors can advise you and the University in good time if any discussions or adjustments need to be considered which forms part of your offer.
Complete Occupational Health Survey
2. GP Appointment
Completed your questionnaire? Great, now you need to get any inoculations that you may need from your GP. When attending your GP appointment, please take printed copies of these two documents with you.
Vaccination Screening Advisory Letter (PDF File 126 KB)
GP Vaccination and Screening History (PDF File 117 KB)
3. Occupational Health appointment
The third and final step (nearly there, you’ve got this!) is to attend an appointment with an Occupational Health Nurse. You’ll receive an email from OHWorks Ltd inviting you to attend your appointment on. Appointments take place during the week and sometimes when your classes have already started.
The OH team have prepared this guide (PDF File 588 KB) which outlines what to expect at each stage. If you have queries or concerns about your Occupational Health clearance or inoculations please contact the Occupational Health team.
