Research degrees

For PhD programmes, please refer to the relevant school webpage as there are variations between entry requirements per subject area. To register for a PhD you'll normally need a first or second class Honours degree from a recognised university. Our typical applicant will have a relevant Masters with Merit or Distinction.

Holders of other qualifications will be considered on merit and we take into account the nature and scope of the proposed programme. We also recognise professional experience, publications, reports and other evidence of accomplishment as well as an ability and background knowledge appropriate to the proposed research.

Candidates need a good standard of English language skills to complete their work and prepare and defend a thesis. As a research student your application needs to be accepted by one of our seven Schools and this is only done once an appropriate supervisory team has been identified.
