Key20 Media
KTP opportunities helped create an in-house production company and led Key20 Media to become a market leader in the digital spaceDemand for web-hosted video has increased in the B2B sector, allowing organisations to convey complex business messages in a quick and accessible format. This presented an opportunity for media and communications experts, Key20 Media, who produce corporate video content. But they needed a KTP with LSBU to make a good idea into their reality.
A Knowledge Transfer Partnership or KTP is a government-funded programme designed to help businesses improve their competitiveness and productivity through the knowledge, technology and skills available within UK universities.
Before their KTP, Key20 outsourced video post-production, but this led to their having limited creative control and less flexibility. Engaging in a KTP with LSBU provided them the framework and expertise to build their own production studio, which reduced their reliance on external suppliers, and brought their creative control in-house.
KTPs build staff engagement and opportunities
LSBU student and KTP Associate, Philip, set up a new production department 'Tracc Films' for Key20 that had the capabilities to shoot, edit, write and produce films. And Key20 didn't just have to rely on the talents of Philip as they discovered some hidden talents as their own staff bought into the project - an administrator doubling as a professional voiceover artist!
Tangible benefits quickly showed themselves as sales increased and Key20 were able to pitch for more complex projects. Philip set up an intern programme to meet this demand and added a valuable resource to the Key20 Media offer. They found that with the right training and engagement, graduates are spectacularly able, creative and productive. Now interns are regularly recruited.
The KTP has meant £350,000 in savings for Key20 Media… I would expect that we will end up with £1,000,000+ impact on our bottom line over the last 2 years.
