Adeoluwa Oyinlola - MSc Applied AI | London South Bank University

Why did you decide to study Computer Science/Information Technology?

I had a tough time deciding what I wanted to study for my MSc. Because of my Physics background, I had myriads of options to be honest but the one thing that helped narrow it down to Artificial Intelligence was the revolutionary effect it's having in our modern-day times and its immense opportunities across literally every sector: agriculture, healthcare, technology, etc. even in the coming years.

Why did you decide to study the course at LSBU in particular?

I mean, I had family close by so that was relief. But primarily, I had made a connection with someone who later turned out to be a colleague, a friend, and my course rep. Our interactions were short and formal during those times, but she helped seal the decision because of how she articulated what I would benefit studying in LSBU. I did not regret my decision.

What are the benefits of studying/working in Computer Science/IT?

Studying AI and actually working in the field has broadened my perspective about so many things and I how I deal with problems. I think primarily, it has given me the opportunity to recognize what exactly is a machine learning problem and which isn't, to breakdown problems into fragments and better understand things.

What were some of the highlights of your studies?

So many memories to be candid, I can't begin to list them all. Two important ones for me were my outing to Google DeepMind and the Generative AI Summit. They were eye-opening events, opportunities to network with leaders in the field and build valuable connections. Those were treasures for me.

Describe some of the support that was available to you.

1. I enjoyed the support from lecturers and professors. They encouraged me a whole lot. Put up with some of my eccentricities and were always ready to help.

2. The environment was conducive to learning and colleagues have been of immense help all through my journey.

Do you have any advice for students who are thinking of studying Computer Science/IT at LSBU?

Absolutely. My advice would be to seize every valuable opportunity to better themselves. Get that skill, go for that class that seem boring, attend that lecture, speak to that mentor/professor, build connections along the way. They will smoothen the path for you. cheers

Please share memorable photos of your time at LSBU.
