Alumna Naz Baig - Law

Graduating in 2008, I've had quite the adventure since then, and I'm excited to tell you all about it. I studied Law. I now work at Waterfords Solicitors, and my current role is Head of Waterfords East London.

My journey into law wasn't exactly straightforward. Back in college, I started off exploring different subjects like the English language, media studies, biology, and psychology. Law wasn't even on my radar until I found myself struggling with some of my courses. It was then that I decided to give law a shot, and to my surprise, I loved it—especially criminal law.

Nurturing My Passion at LSBU

When I joined LSBU, my passion for criminal law only grew stronger. The comprehensive curriculum and supportive environment at LSBU provided me with the perfect platform to delve deeper into my chosen field.

Taking the Next Steps

After graduating, I wasted no time pursuing my dream. I enrolled at BPP Law School, where I immersed myself in the rigorous demands of legal practice. Following my postgraduate diploma, I embarked on a training contract, where I honed my skills across various legal domains. Qualifying as a solicitor before the age of 30 was a major milestone for me—a goal I had set for myself and achieved through sheer determination and hard work.

Empowering Others

One of the most rewarding aspects of my journey has been the opportunity to mentor aspiring legal professionals. Through LSBU's mentoring program, I've had the privilege of guiding numerous undergraduates and helping them navigate their paths in the legal world. Seeing one of my mentees transition into a paralegal role under my guidance was incredibly fulfilling and reinforced my belief in the power of mentorship.

A Testament to Tenacity

My journey from LSBU to leading my own branch office in East London hasn't been without its challenges. However, through perseverance and a steadfast commitment to my passion, I've been able to overcome obstacles and carve out a successful career in criminal defence. My advice to current and prospective LSBU students echoes the lessons I've learned along the way: embrace the journey, pursue your passions wholeheartedly, and never underestimate the value of hard work and resilience. As I continue to make strides in the realm of criminal defence, I'm grateful for the foundation LSBU provided me and excited to see where the future takes me. My journey is a testament to the transformative power of education, mentorship, and unwavering determination, and I hope it inspires others to pursue their dreams relentlessly.
