Desharne Bent-Ashmeil, Chiropractic Student and 3 Time Diving Gold Medallist
Chiropractic student, Desharne Bent-Ashmeil, has won Gold for 3m Springboard, Synchro and Mixed Synchro at the 2024 European Championships.
One of LSBU's most inspiring athletes is Desharne Bent-Ashmeil, who has broken barriers in the sport of diving.
Desharne is a huge advocate for opportunities in sport. In an interview with BBC Sport, she said the following:
"My dream is to get to the Olympics, represent black people and try to put diving out there so more people from different backgrounds feel this is a sport for them."
Desharne’s ambition is arguably even more striking. Desharne became the first black diver to win a medal for Great Britain at the European Games last summer. Not only did she claim one medal, but achieved a clean sweep in all 3 categories becoming a 3-time European Medallist. We look forward to supporting her quest to become Team GB’s first black diver at an Olympic Games.
Hear what Desharne has to say about joining the LSBU Active Sports Scholarship scheme:
“Hi, my name is Desharne Bent Ashmeil. I am 20 years old, and I am in my first year on the Chiropractic Integrated Masters course at LSBU. I compete at an international level on the Great Britain team for women’s springboard diving. I am a three-time European champion and a two-time reigning champion in the women’s 3m synchronised event. I am very excited to be working with LSBU active as part of the scholarship programme as I believe it will help with my efficiency to train and work out even when I’m at university. I’m very grateful to receive a financial benefit that will support me, aiding in me in my school study needs and supplies.”
