Why did you decide to progress to postgraduate studies?
From the moment I moved to UK, I knew I wanted to pursue a postgraduate degree. This desire intensified when I realised that with the right qualification, I could aim to become a Chartered Structural Engineer within the first 5 years as a professional.
Why did you decided to progress to postgraduate studies at LSBU?
During my undergraduate studies at LSBU, I had the privilege of learning from some exceptional lectures. Their expertise and willingness to help made a significant impact on my education, as they had a remarkable talent for explaining complex concepts in a straightforward manner. The university offered excellent facilities, such as modern library and the LSBU Hub, which greatly enhanced my study experience and made it more enjoyable.
How did studying a postgraduate programme at LSBU help you achieve your goals?
As I mentioned before, the quality of teaching and the facilities that university provided increased my motivation to learn. On the other hand, I had the chance to have meetings with qualified staff that would check my CV and prepare me for interviews which was very helpful in launching my first Graduate Structural Engineering job.
What are the benefits of studying a postgraduate program in London, and particularly Elephant and Castle?
You are surrounded by countless opportunities to develop you professionally. I attended numerous seminars and employability session organised by university and other institutions, which significantly broadened my knowledge and skills.
Describe some of the highlights of your postgraduate programme so far.
The course is designed to equip you with essential technical and practical skills. At the time that I was working in the final year project, I had regular meetings with my supervisor which he challenged and motivated me to finalize the project and create a work that I am proud of. During a seminar I attended, I had the chance to meet a Senior Structural Engineer who recognized my potential and encourage me to apply for a position at a company with a great reputation which then helped me launch my first job.
Describe some of the support available to you as a postgraduate student.
Ability to have one to one meeting with all the lecturers if I needed assistance with any topic. Meetings with university professionals who offered valuable advice on CV writings and interviews techniques, which ultimately helped me land my first job. We had the opportunity to have multiple site visit which gave us an insight on how the buildings were constructed and designed.
Do you have any advice for any undergraduates who are thinking of studying a postgraduate programme at LSBU?
If you want to make a meaningful contribution to the world, a post graduate program with equip you with the essential tools to achieve that goal. Embrace this opportunity, it will be one of the best gifts you can give to yourself.
