Huynh Thanh Truc Lam - MSc Business Project Management

Where are you from and which course did you choose to study?

Hi, it’s Nhi. I'm from Vietnam, a beautiful country in Southeast Asia. I moved to London in August 2023 to enrol in a full-time MSc Business Project Management course at London South Bank University. This September, I completed a one-year journey for this course, filled with new experiences, wisdom, and enjoyment.

Tell me about how the course staff have supported you?

I can't thank all the LSBU staff enough for their unwavering support in helping me adapt quickly to the new educational environment. As an international student, I was unfamiliar with the enrolment process. The International Enquiries team provided invaluable guidance, ensuring I could join the course on time. Furthermore, my course leader and lecturers gave me many chances to practice my presentation skills through seminar activities. Unlike the teacher-centred approach in my hometown, this interactive study style has significantly improved my communication and confidence in public speaking. In addition, all guest speakers were outstanding and generously shared all their best practices and experiences in project management, enabling an efficient way to grasp new concepts.

What skills have you learnt or developed during your time at LSBU?

MSc Business Project Management provided a solid theoretical and practical foundation in line with the core competencies of the Association for Project Management and Project Management Institute, opening a new door in my career path. Of the eight modules, agile project management was my favourite, particularly the agile retrospective concept. The concept aims to determine what you did well, where you had problems, and what areas you can improve. It has become the principle I live by in my private life and professional work.

Along with project management skills, adaptability, and independence are two transferrable skills I have developed remarkably at LSBU. Navigating a new educational system pushed me to learn, discover, and practice new things. With the incredible support from the course leader, lecturers, and LSBU staff, I rapidly adapted to new circumstances, embraced the change, and became more self-reliant.

Have you done a work placement or any work experience?

Before joining the MSc course, I worked in digital marketing for a technology company in Vietnam. This role gave me great opportunities to lead marketing campaigns for various gaming projects and experiment with up-to-date trends, which resulted in excellent results.

While at LSBU, I served as an international student ambassador, sharing my experience with international students seeking guidance to study at LSBU. Having received so much support and care from people in LSBU, I wanted to join this community to help new fellow students integrate and feel at home at LSBU.

Where do you see yourself in the future? What are your goals?

Digital marketing is in my blood; thus, I plan to pursue it in worldwide markets in my next chapter. What I learned in the MSc Business Project Management will help me take my career path to the next level. I envision myself as an App Growth Marketing Manager who can close the market gap and delight stakeholders. By planning comprehensive digital marketing, implementing data-driven decision-making, and leveraging agile project management, I can deliver impactful results in quality, budget, and time while driving sustainable growth for every project I undertake.

What advice would you give to people thinking about studying at LSBU?

The best thing about my experience at LSBU was that it always offers a friendly and supportive environment. Everyone is welcome and respected, regardless of gender, background, or nationality. One bonus point at LSBU is its modern facilities. Whenever I wanted to concentrate more on self-study and coursework, I could find a corner in the library with a private room, a group room, and a public area equipped with computers and quiet mode.

I recommend students, especially international students who want to study abroad, consider applying to LSBU. LSBU's dedicated support and practical teaching method will inspire you to "Study what you love and enjoy what you learn."
