LSBU's South Bank Racing Team Revs Up for Silverstone 2025!

London South Bank University's (LSBU) South Bank Racing (SBR) team is gearing up for the Formula Student (FS) Competition at Silverstone in July 2025. The team, comprised of talented students from various disciplines, is aiming to build on their 2022, 2023 and 2024 vehicles, and make a significant impact this academic year.

After gaining valuable experience in the past three years, the team is focused on improving their performance and achieving a higher ranking. They have been hard at work designing and developing a new car, which they plan to unveil in 2024-25. This cutting-edge vehicle will incorporate the latest engineering advancements and reflect the dedication and innovation of the student team.

The South Bank Racing team is a testament to the interdisciplinary collaboration at LSBU. Students from the School of Engineering, School of Business, and School of the Arts and Creative Industries work together to design, engineer, and market the race car. This unique blend of expertise has enabled the team to produce a high-quality vehicle and create engaging content, including a YouTube documentary series: Pushed to the Limit.

South Bank Racing Team Principal Justin Evans Essandoh, a final-year Mechanical Engineering student, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season: "We're excited to showcase the hard work and dedication of our team at Silverstone. With the support of our sponsors and the innovative capabilities of our partners like Get It Made, we're confident in our ability to achieve our goals. The support from Get It Made, a leading provider of 3D printing and CNC machining services, has been instrumental in the development of the new car. "

Chief Engineer, Pietro Ferro, a second year Mechanical Engineering student added: “Get It Made have been crucial to the implementation of our car. By being able to outsource high precision components such as the rear bulkhead and uprights, Get It Made have been essential to the manufacturing and assembly of SBR-03 (the third incarnation of the vehicle). With a discount from the sponsorship, SBR has been able to surpass previous years and engineer a better and more reliable car with their high precision CNC services. With this help, we were able to bring our complex designs to life, greatly reducing the weight of the car for the competition. Apart from the precision, we have been able to receive the parts quickly and efficiently with their great lead time”.

The team's success is made possible by the generous support of their sponsors. The South Bank Racing team extends its gratitude to all of its sponsors in 2023-24, including: Get It Made, 3Dconnexion, EasyComposites, ePlan, Primus Engineering Group, ProAlloy, RS Components, SCC Performance, Hexagon, GoRace, Race Software, RaceSim, Solidworks, Accu, Uncommon, Kliktronic, Levels, Go2Games, Zirotec Group, Demon Tweeks, Pro Alloy, SHD Composites and AVO.
