Why did you decide to study Computer Science/Information Technology?

I decided to study Computer Science because of my deep fascination with how technology shapes and transforms the world. From a young age, I was captivated by the potential of innovation and problem-solving that technology offers. My passion grew as I explored programming languages like Python and Java, delved into robotics, and engaged in hands-on projects such as coding ARM micro-controllers for maze-solving robots.

Studying Computer Science at LSBU has allowed me to combine my love for technology with real-world applications.

Studying Computer Science at LSBU has allowed me to combine my love for technology with real-world applications. It provided a platform to explore advanced topics such as artificial intelligence, IT infrastructure, and cybersecurity. The opportunity to participate in robotics competitions with the Robotic Society like Unibots UK, where I led my team to achieve podium finishes, further fuelled my drive to pursue this field. Ultimately, I chose Computer Science because it allows me to continuously learn, innovate, and contribute to a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

I chose to study Computer Science at LSBU because of its strong emphasis on practical, hands-on learning and its commitment to fostering innovation. The university stood out for its dynamic learning environment, where students are encouraged to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges. LSBU’s focus on industry-relevant skills, such as programming, IT infrastructure, and robotics, perfectly aligned with my career aspirations in technology.

Furthermore, LSBU’s supportive faculty and state-of-the-art facilities, such as robotics labs and computing resources, have been instrumental in shaping my skills and confidence. These factors, combined with the university’s central location in London and its vibrant academic community, made LSBU the ideal choice for my studies.

My experiences, such as working with IT infrastructure during my internship at AVEVA and developing robotics projects, have demonstrated how these skills are in high demand across various sectors.

Computer Science empowers you to solve real-world problems through technology. For instance, during my robotics competitions at LSBU, I designed and coded solutions for complex tasks, which not only honed my technical skills but also nurtured my creativity and critical thinking.

What were some of the highlights of your studies?

My studies in Computer Science at LSBU have been filled with exciting highlights that have significantly shaped my academic and professional journey:

1. Robotics Competitions and Leadership

Participating in Unibots UK was a standout experience. In my first year, I was part of a team that secured third place, and in my second year, I led the team to achieve second place. These competitions not only honed my technical skills, such as programming ARM micro-controllers, but also developed my leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.

2. Public Speaking and Presentations

Presenting at prestigious events like the BCSWomen Lovelace conference was another highlight. In 2023, I spoke on the "Gender Gap in STEM," and in 2024, I presented a "Social Media Fake News Detection Model" using sentiment and emotion analysis. These experiences improved my communication skills and gave me a platform to share innovative ideas.

Engaging in practical projects, such as MicroPython for robot cars and debugging ARM-based systems, allow me to apply theoretical knowlesge in real-world scenarios.

My involvement in the LEGO Robotics Training program and my roles as a CSI and STEM Ambassador were pivotal. These activities allowed me to mentor others, develop my public speaking skills, and inspire future generations of computer scientists.
