Why did you decide to study Computer Science/Information Technology?

I chose to study Information Technology because I have always been passionate about technology and its potential to solve real-world problems. IT offers a blend of creativity, problem-solving, and innovation, which aligns perfectly with my interests. It is a field that keeps changing day in and day out; hence, it presents unlimited opportunities for learning and development. Moreover, studying IT enables me to acquire the most relevant skills in the digital world of today, opening up multiple career opportunities and enabling the ability to make a difference in numerous fields.

Why did you decide to study the course at LSBU in particular?

I chose to study at London South Bank University because its IT course is well-structured, and it focuses on practical learning and real-world skills, which suits my career goals. I was also impressed with LSBU's strong industry links and its location in central London, offering great opportunities to learn, network, and grow.

What are the benefits of studying/working in Computer Science/IT?

Studying or working in Computer Science and IT has numerous benefits. It is a highly sought-after field, which offers immense job opportunities along with good salaries. One can work in various areas like software development, cybersecurity, data analysis, and many more, where the acquired skills will be useful all over the world. It is a very creative and exciting field where one can solve real problems, learn new things, and help change people's lives through technology.

What were some of the highlights of your studies?

I have successfully contributed to four group projects, which enhanced my productivity, teamwork, and technical skills. Additionally, I secured an internship through the LSBU Careers Hub as an Administrative Officer at Legal Connections, where I gained valuable professional experience. Serving as a CSI Ambassador allowed me to develop leadership and training skills, while my role as a Brand Ambassador with the LSBU Marketing Team provided insight into effective communication and promotional strategies. These experiences have significantly enriched my skill set and prepared me for future challenges.

Describe some of the support that was available to you.

LSBU has a wide range of support services available for students, which I have found very helpful during my studies. My personal tutor was of great help during my first year, both academically and personally. The LSBU app is also very useful, enabling students to book study rooms and access library facilities with ease. The other thing that helped was knowing I could borrow a backup laptop from the library when necessary. The university also has really good mental health and wellbeing support, ensuring students receive whatever assistance they may need to enable their academic and personal success.

Do you have any advice for students who are thinking of studying Computer Science/IT at LSBU?

My advice for students considering Computer Science or IT at LSBU is to make the most of the resources and opportunities available. Stay curious and take advantage of practical learning experiences, like internships and group projects, to build your skills. Engage with your personal tutor and use the LSBU app for managing study spaces and library resources efficiently. And when needed, do not hesitate to seek help from the mental health and wellbeing support services. Finally, do not be afraid to network around, join student groups, and participate in university events all for the development of both your technical and professional skills.
