What is the Bloomberg Lab?
The Bloomberg Lab at London South Bank University is more than just a training ground for future finance professionals; it is a critical platform for economics students to apply theoretical concepts in a real-world context, enhancing their understanding of global economic dynamics. By providing direct access to real-time data, analytical tools, and comprehensive learning resources, the Lab equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complexities of the financial and economic landscape. It’s an indispensable part of their academic journey, preparing them for successful careers in a highly competitive industry.
The Bloomberg Lab’s mission is clear: to bridge the gap between academic theories and their real-world applications in finance and economics. It’s about turning theoretical knowledge into actionable insights. Officially inaugurated in April 2019, the Lab is home to a designated classroom equipped with 12 Bloomberg terminals plus one for the instructor, capable of accommodating 20-30 students.
Student Experience
Engagement with the Bloomberg suite spans a wide array of activities, from conducting fundamental and technical analysis to portfolio management. It is a testament to the breadth and depth of Bloomberg’s capabilities, preparing students for a seamless transition into their future careers.

What will I learn in the lab?
For economics students, the Lab is an invaluable resource for understanding economic indicators, forecasting, and macroeconomic analysis. It provides them with the tools to explore economic trends, analyze data, and apply economic theories in a practical context. The Lab supports various modules, including Econometrics and Data Analytics, International Finance & Investment, and Managing Financial Risk, where students engage in activities ranging from downloading and analyzing financial and economics data to participating in global trading games. This integration into the syllabus not only enhances their learning experience but also prepares them for the BMC (Bloomberg Market Concepts) certification, a valuable addition to their professional portfolio.
