Computer Science and Informatics online escape room: Wednesday 10 July
LSBU challenges you! Win a trip to Bletchley Park
We’re giving you exclusive access to our online escape room this summer! You can either join us online or come to our award-winning LSBU Hub. In a team of five, get ready to put your logic, maths and coding skills to the test. The winning team will win a trip to Bletchley Park – home of the World War II code breakers! During the event, you will navigate through immersive scenarios to crack intricate puzzles. You will attempt to crack the code with your teammates, sharpen your coding prowess and have a blast.
Mechanical Engineering Crossness field trip: Friday 12 July
We are inviting you to an exclusive trip to Crossness Pumping Station - a former sewage pumping station and Victorian masterpiece.
Dubbed the cathedral on the marshes, Crossness Pumping Station was built in 1865 in response to the various cholera outbreaks taking place in the South of England. A grade 1 industrial heritage site, it was abandoned in 1952 and restored to its former glory by the Crossness Engines Trust in 1985.
Join us for an illustrated talk giving the historical context of this revolutionary sewerage system in London. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to discover London's fascinating industrial history and meet your future classmates before your course starts in September.
A buffet lunch will be provided on the day, along with a pre-paid travel card so you can get to and from the venue from LSBU. With only a few spaces available on the trip, book now to avoid disappointment! If you have any accessibility requirements, please let us know.
Bankside Civil Engineering tour: Thursday 25 July
Mighty viaducts, designed and built by Victorian engineers, snake across our city. They ooze Victorian aspiration, pride and confidence. This is just as well really – because this 19th-century industrial network still carries the tubes, trains and roads that keep our Metropolis moving.
Join our organised tour of London's Bankside to discover all that our local area has to offer a Civil and Building Services Engineering student! Meeting at the LSBU Hub entrance, we take you to the international food market Mercato Metropolitano for a free lunch and a chance to mingle with your future classmates. From 2pm, our local tour guide Mr Londoner will take you on a journey through Elephant and Castle, Borough and Bankside. We’ll touch on themes of regeneration, climate change, liveable cities, Net Zero, active transport and more. Those with accessibility requirements are more than welcome to join. Please let us know on the registration form.
