Overview
Interventional Radiology is a rapidly evolving specialty that combines simultaneous surgical treatment and cutting-edge imaging for the benefit of the patient in both urgent and elective care. The interventional radiology service consists of a multidisciplinary team of radiologists, radiographers, nurses, anaesthetists and ODPs and cardiologists or neurologists, if within a specialist cardiac or neurology centre. The demand on interventional radiology services is significantly high and over recent years has seen the development of dedicated specialist staff and even allied health professionals extending their scope of practice into performing interventional procedures to aid the radiology workforce.
This Pg Cert is a postgraduate, post-registration course for qualified and registered allied health and care professionals working within Interventional Radiology. The course is beneficial to all individuals who work within the interventional radiology department to build upon their existing foundation of knowledge to develop an advanced critical understanding and knowledge of procedures, equipment, imaging and care that can be applied to deliver an effective, efficient service with a highly skilled workforce that will continue to meet the demanding requirements of this specialty service.
Upon successful completion of the course all participants will have an advanced, critical knowledge and understanding of interventional radiology procedures, imaging, patient care and relevant legislation and professional guidance. The Pg Cert will enable all participants to have an advanced level of knowledge of Interventional Radiology enhancing their evidence within the clinical domain of practice.
Having worked in interventional Suite previously for 5 years, I was very surprised how much there was to still learn when I started. As a radiographer, having the opportunity to learn about the nursing aspect of interventional radiology was enriching. Being systematically taught about the equipment and imaging in IR with the practical backing from work was needed. And I get a certificate to show for it! Different departments do different procedures and coming together to share information and knowledge was invaluable. This course is overdue but am glad it has started and hope it continues for a very long time

It has been great to interact with other IR team members. I have personally learned a lot of new ideas about what the different ways of viewing are. I have been challenged to see that Radiographers can take on enhanced roles within IR. The course has helped me to see the ways I can move forward and further my own capabilities
