Fashion Communications Become a Loudspeaker for the fashion industry! Would you like to find out what being a Fashion Communicator entails? Are you intrigued by the Fashion industry, creativity and practices? Our Fashion Communication Taster session, you will dive into the world of fashion images and texts, films and sounds and discover how creative professionals create memorable experiences, and deliver branded messages and unforgettable stories.
Game Design and Development Crafting playable experiences and working in multidisciplinary teams developing games This interactive session will introduce you to fundamental skills for level design. It will help you understand the requirements and creative decisions behind making an environment that the player must navigate and inhabit. You'll also get to meet members of our faculty who teach on the course and see for yourself the friendly team-focused game development culture at LSBU.
Media Production How to create Engaging Online Content Are you interested in creating engaging online content? Do you want to use the power of video and sound to tell the world about something big? This taster session will introduce you to video editing using Adobe Premiere. Media Production is about producing content and using online platforms to share it – and it all starts here.
Music and Sound Design Making Music with Ableton Live Take your creativity to the next level with an introduction to making electronic music in Ableton Live. Whether you want to make your own beats, compose music for video games or design your own sounds from scratch, Ableton Live is a versatile and fun piece of music software used across the industry. This taster session will introduce you to the basics of creating your own music in Ableton Live and give you an insight into studying Music and Sound Design at university.

Biomedical Science Workshops

Identifying Disease in Blood

In this activity you will be observing different blood smears under the microscope, identifying and measuring different blood elements using  different magnifications, and observing diseased blood smears.

Creating a DNA model (suitable for Year 7-10)

Students will participate in extracting DNA and creating a DNA model. Your students will also construct a DNA double-helix model and be able to gain a better understanding of why this structure is essential for cell division.

Forensic Science Workshops

Forensic Fingerprinting Evidence

In this session, your students will learn about identifying their fingerprint patterns. They will also enhance some invisible fingermarks using forensic chemical enhancement techniques and solve the cold case whodunnit quiz.

Forensic Drug Analysis

In this chemical detective workshop, you will learn about and use different forensic analysis techniques to identify types of chemical evidence. You will use presumptive testing kits to indicate the nature of the samples and confirmatory instrumental analysis to confirm the identity of the evidence.

Crime Scene Investigation

A crime has been committed and Scene of Crime Officers have been called to the scene! In this practical workshop, you will process the crime scene in our crime scene flat and record and recover the forensic evidence.

(Only available in Semester 1: Sept-Dec)

Forensic Bone Analysis

You will find out about the role of the Forensic Anthropologist and how they identify victims from skeletal remains. Learn how to determine the sex, ancestral background and age from the skeleton. Analyse bones in a case study and solve the criminal investigation.

Sports and Exercise Science

Field and Laboratory Fitness Testing

Fitness assessments are a series of tests that measure an individual's physical fitness level across two broad areas: health and skill-related components. In this session, students will build on the knowledge developed from their BTEC studies and explore a range of field and laboratory-based testing protocols

Psychology Psychology, the Brain and Forensic Psychology Our session will cover two broad areas of psychology: psychology and the brain, and forensic psychology. Students will be exposed to concepts related to the study of the brain and how visual illusions can inform us about our perception of reality. They will also learn about the contribution of forensic psychology research to areas such as deception detection and police interviewing.
Cracking the Case: Forensic InterviewingIn this workshop, you will step into the role of a detective (or a suspect), interviewing through immersive role play. You'll need to use your communication and critical thinking skills while gaining hands-on experience in investigative work.
Baking Science and TechnologyThe Story of SourdoughIn this workshop, one of our expert lecturers will talk you through the history of sourdough, the ancient old method of breadmaking that is rising in popularity. This talk will demystify the process of making your own starter culture, and how to prepare this for making your own bread at home.
The Story of ChocolateIn this workshop students will learn about how chocolate is produced, starting with cocoa beans and ending up with a bar of chocolate. How is the soft, luxurious and delicious flavour and texture of chocolate created? During this session, students will be able to taste chocolates from different origins, with different flavour profiles.
A Food Safety MysteryStudents will learn about food safety and the risks around poor food hygiene. How can you keep food safe from spoilage and people safe from allergic reactions? Students will also learn to spot food safety risks like a food safety detective.
Pharmaceutical SciencesHow pills dissolve in the bodyIn a class demonstration, the teacher will place different pill types ("chalk" pill, gel pill, and gel tablet) into separate glass beakers of vinegar, representing human stomach acid. After 20-30 minutes, the pills dissolve. Students will observe which dissolves the fastest, and discuss the remnants of the various pills.
Drug EmulsionIn this lab, students will mix polar and nonpolar substances and then add various emulsifiers to encourage the mixing of the two substances. They will use ingredients in salad dressing to relate science to real-life scenarios. Participants will test a few common household ingredients to identify the most effective emulsifier for making salad dressing.
Making hand sanitiserWhen it comes to preventing the spread of infectious diseases like COVID-19, nothing beats good old-fashioned handwashing. But if water and soap aren’t available, your next the best option is to use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser that contains at least 60% alcohol and all it takes is three ingredients to make your own hand sanitiser in the lab.
How to read a prescription drug labelEach time you receive a prescription, it's crucial to read and adhere to the details provided in the medication's "label." This step is essential to guarantee your well-being. Acquaint yourself with the various components of your prescription drug
labels through a pill illustrative example.

Miniature Worlds: Model-Making Workshop

Step into the world of hands-on architecture with this engaging model-making workshop. Learn tips and techniques to craft professional-scale models using everyday materials. Perfect for students looking to enhance their design presentations or experiment with new ideas in a tangible, creative way.

Think Big, Draw Big

Real-world 1:1 interventions are an essential part of architectural practice and experience. In this workshop, participants will connect with the campus community by planning and creating a large drawing in LSBU's outdoor areas using chalk and large-format mark-making techniques. We will explore how to create 1:1 artefacts and make a mark in the city.

Town Planning

Your Town, Your Place, Fix It: An Introduction to Urban Planning

This workshop session puts you in control of remaking your own hometown or neighbourhood! You will reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of the place you know best and, through drawing and discussion, design it afresh. In doing so, you will create the most appealing and sustainable town in which to live, work and play!

Aim93 invites you to a dynamic, hands-on workshop focused on human-powered vehicle design. In this fast-paced session, you'll collaborate with fellow participants to rapidly develop a 3D sketch of a functional, moving vehicle. This workshop is designed to be accessible to all, fostering creativity and problem-solving skills. Whether you're a seasoned designer or a curious beginner, you'll gain valuable insights into the engineering design process. Get ready to think outside the box and build something extraordinary! This activity is based on a full-scale project where London South Bank University is aiming to break the world record for human-powered speed in a single seat vehicle; participating in the international competition at Battle Mountain in Neveda, US.

Workshop 2: Stop and SearchA structured evaluation session ideal for students wanting to critically evaluate the law on stop and search using human rights.
Workshop 3: Participation/Joint Enterprise in Criminal LawIn this workshop, students will critically evaluate how the law deals with Participation/Joint Enterprise issues e.g. in the context of a group/gang committing a murder.
Workshop 4: MootingA structured practical session ideal for students wanting to learn how to use advocacy as a tool in a criminal appeal on a homicide case where the defendant has potentially diminished responsibility.
Workshop 5: Studying Law at Uni and Law CareersThis session looks at studying Law at university and Law Careers and employability, including applications, CVs, interviews, work experience, and utilising LinkedIn.
Workshop 6: Politics and International RelationsWhat are the most pressing issues on the national and international agenda at the moment? How can we think about them ‘politically’ and what such thinking can add to our ability to understand them, and actively participate in changing or challenging them? This taster session will introduce you to political thinking, to the concept of ‘power’ and together we will discuss why all this matters to our lives as citizens of a global community.
