Our graduates earn more

They say some things are too good to be true, but this time there’s an exception. You may have seen us telling you that our graduates earn more and that’s just because, they do.

Data collected by the UK government allowing us to compare salaries across the UK shows LSBU graduates, just one year after graduating, earn the highest average salaries of all London Modern universities. And they still do after 3 and 5 years as well.

What is a London Modern uni?

London Modern universities are typically universities that previously had a strong technical or applied focus. We interpret these to be;

  • University of Greenwich
  • Kingston University
  • Middlesex University
  • University of West London
  • University of Westminster
  • London Metropolitan University
  • University of East London
  • St Mary’s University, Twickenham
  • Roehampton University
  • University of the Arts, London

What does this data consider?

The Office for Students (OfS) is the owner of the LEO data. It analyses individuals’ education data with their employment, their benefits and their earnings data. The Ofs's 2024 release, which uses data from the 2021/22 tax year, shows LSBU graduates have the highest average salaries, one year, three years and five years after graduating.

How we do it

We like to do things a little bit differently so focus our efforts on the things that will set you apart from the crowd.

We’re a technical university. That means we believe practice makes perfect, so our courses have been designed so you start using your skills even before you graduate.

Not only will you study with live briefs and simulation exercises and even work with our local businesses, giving them advice on the issues they’re facing, but you’ll also benefit from assessments specifically designed to suit your course.

We know traditional exams aren’t always the best measure, and sometimes the exam process itself doesn’t support certain learning styles, so we’ve introduced a number of practical assessments instead, where your knowledge and skills are tested in scenarios and mock environments.

Making education accessible

University should be for everyone and as accessible as possible. Whether you’re first in your family to go to uni, from another country and would like to study in the UK, or just worried you’re not cut out for it, you are, and we’ll make sure we provide all the support you need to succeed.

Becoming your home away from home, a place where you’ll be surrounded by like-minded individuals and supported by expert lecturers and support staff.

You’ll have access to our award-winning library team, wellbeing advice and workshops, and our disability support team and well as receive a personalised development plan, specifically tailored to you.

We know there’s great strength in our diversity and our work to continue to challenge the inequalities people face has been recognised, on a global scale.

At LSBU, you’ll be part of a university currently ranked 3rd in the world for reducing inequalities (Times Higher Impact rankings 2024) and in the Top 100 employers for LGBTQ+ inclusion (Stonewall 2024).  Our ranking for reducing inequality covers things like; our number of disabled students and staff, supporting students from developing countries, attracting those who are 1st in the family to attend, to name a few. And we could be prouder.

Get career-ready

Studying with LSBU means you’ll already be on track to hit the ground running when you graduate but our careers team will support you further through employability workshops, our online Careers Hub, CV writing and even helping to source part-time work while you study.

Location is everything

We love South London and know you will too. Elephant & Castle itself is well connected. Situated in Zone 1, with London’s excellent transport links on your doorstep you can let the capital inspire you at every turn.

And we make sure we leverage its power too. Working with employers to not only offer you placements with some of the UK’s leading brands but to help design our courses so you know you’ll be learning the skills businesses need.

Teaching style

You don’t need to take just our word for it because our students themselves say they feel supported by their teaching teams, encouraged to explore ideas and concepts and even that they love that their learning from previous modules is applied in the next one.

Our National Student Survey (NSS) scores, which come directly from our students, have increased for the 3rd time running this year and we won’t stop improving and making them feel even more prepared for their future. You can read more about what our students have said in our National Student Survey results 2024.

The views of our students are also captured in our Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) rating, a scheme run by the Office for Students (OfS). We currently hold an overall score of Silver, with our work to help students develop their skills in a way that also meets the needs of society being noted as a particular stand-out feature.

The different approach we take to assess you during your studies has also been rated highly, with students saying our teaching is very high quality.
