Dr Blay Whitby

Philosopher and Technology Ethicist Concerned with the Social Impact of New and Emerging Technologies

Details

The use of AI in ‘caring’ roles is not science fiction. It is already well underway. Can AI care in the same way as a human? There are choices to be made and there are important ethical questions to be answered before we commit to these technological developments.

In a recent interview with Rishi Sunak, Elon Musk predicted that AI would take all jobs. Join Dr Blay Whitby as he unpacks this claim through reasons asserting that some roles may need to be kept for humans, despite commercial incentives to replace them by AI.

Dr Blay Whitby is a philosopher and ethicist concerned with the social impact of new and emerging technologies. He is a leading researcher in the field and the author of many books, chapters and papers on the subject including “Do You Want a Robot Lover?”, “On Computable Morality”, “Reflections on Artificial Intelligence: The Legal, Moral and Ethical Dimensions and “Artificial Intelligence, A Beginner’s Guide”.
